figured I would actually give some helpful info for those who were starting out like me don’t make these mistakes lol. I had planned a year ago to do a backpack hunt second season in 12..This year serious drought and faced with sub zero temps 2nd day of opening season with heavy snow..So my “backpack” hunt went straight to the toilet. At the trail head of Morapos Creek where I started...all the high wall tents should have been a clue..I made the hump up Wilson Mesa it’s a bitch ..there is a spring just shy of Wilson Mesa it flow less than a 3 beer threshold P break. If you plan on hunting this area in second season I would have a high wall tent Or RV and spike out. Plan for water, there was zero up there. Had to go to a different unit ..ultra lite tents and zero degree down bags won’t cut it. While walking the 3.5 miles up the switch backs to the Mesa with my heavy pack, passed by several horse strings ..good idea I thought .. no one will give much info ..I did find elk but they were on private land in a different unit. There was a BUNCH of campers there so I know it’s a decent unit just don’t plan on an unsupported backpack hunt second season. Be happy to give any additional info
Hey Dave can u clarify I saw this on rockslide well someone saying 47 is no longer OTC for elk second rifle. Looks like it’s no longer for archery. But I’m planning for applying here for MD and don’t want a tag if I can’t OTC elk hunt
