On The Ground

Area 150 is made up of mainly private lands with irrigated ranch lands and a large portion of the unit is located along the Snake River. For nonresidents, this area is part of Region H and tags drawn for this area are also valid in: 130, 138, 139, 140, 142, 146, 149, 151, 152, 153, 154, 155, 156.

Even though mule deer and whitetails are both located in the same unit, whitetail numbers have increased in areas along the Snake River in the last couple of years, with larger bucks harvested every year. In Area 150, east of Highway 390, is archery only.

Terrain

A large portion of the unit travels along the Snake River, found at the lowest elevations within this area. The elevation along the western portions rises quickly along the slopes of the Grand Teton Mountains. The forest rises to rocky cliffs and shale slides that extend to the tops of the mountains.

  • Roughly 72 square miles

  • 37.1% public land

  • Elevations from 6,043-10,331 feet

Short mountain grasses and wild flowers can be found along the tops of mountains. Conifer trees with large aspen tree patches make up the majority of the vegetation found at lower elevations. River bottoms have irrigated grass and hay ranch lands, aspen trees and large cottonwood trees.

Lots of access points that hunters can use to get to higher elevations with mule deer habitat can be located on the slopes of mountains. Lower elevations have a few Game and Fish access areas, but the main whitetail areas are in private property and hunters need to get permission to access the lands to hunt.

Some hunters that go to the tops of mountains in the west will camp remotely. Hunters who go after whitetails usually camp in Jackson Hole and Wilson.
