This small unit is found in northern Utah and lies just west of Heber City. Hunters will find a thousands of acres of public land here along with good hunting opportunities. Good road systems can be found here but most of the high elevation areas are primarily roadless and perfect for hunters looking to distance themselves for the crowds. Physical effort can be high at times and should be considered by all hunters.
Good numbers of elk are found here and hunters willing to work for it can be in for a fun hunt.
The areas near Midway on the east side of the unit will be primarily composed of flat private lands of agriculture and urban areas. The central and western portions of the unit will be primarily mountainous. Here large ridge lines run mostly east and west with several finger ridges heading in many directions. Ridges can be very steep and canyons and draws will be deep. Cross country travel in these areas can be very tough but with the late dates for this season, elk will generally be in lower elevation areas.
Most of the low-lying areas will mostly be void of large tree cover and be primarily comprised of sage, oak brush, and scattered pockets of aspen. High elevation areas will see heavy stands of timber, particularly on north-facing slopes, comprised of pine, spruce, fir, and aspen. Even in the high country most of the south-facing slopes will be mostly open and can provide great glassing opportunities. Most of the high elevation areas will be ridgelines running into large alpine bowls with large patches of oak brush.
This area features thousand of acres of public land and lots of opportunities for hunters. The central portion of the unit is made up largely of the Wasatch Mountains State Park where hunting is legal. Good road systems can be found here but due to the steep terrain many of these are found in valley bottoms. Nearly all of the acces into high country areas will be through hiking.
There are a few options for modern lodging around Midway but the most options will be found just outside of the unit in Heber City. Groceries and sporting goods can be found in small sections in Midway but the best selection will be found in Heber City.
