This large unit is located in central Utah and is home to a small and nomadic herd of elk. Initially locating elk can take some effort but most of this unit is very glassable.
Good hunting can be here but densities of elk can be low and difficult to locate at times.
This unit is largely comprised of rough and broken desert terrain with deep-cut ravines and canyons leading into the Colorado River. Glassing opportunities are abundant but even with the open terrain there are a lot of locations elk can and will hide. Hunters will need to put on miles, both in vehicles and on foot, to locate animals. Several access roads can cut down on the amount of necessary cross country travel but hunters should still be prepared to hike to locate herds.
Lower elevations in this unit area have dry, desert rolling hills and flats. Some different grasses, prickly-pear cactus, yucca and sagebrush with scattered pinyon pines and juniper trees can be found throughout this area.
This unit is almost entirely public and hunters should find little trouble in locating good hunting areas. Several roads exist throughout the unit but an ATV or side by side would be best suited for these. There are not many maintained trails available so any hiking will consist of cross country travel.
Most hunters camp along roads. There are several locations that have good, flat camping locations for travel trailers or tents. Some of the locations are in small coves where you are sheltered from the wind, which can be strong at times. There are no towns within the unit boundaries.
