This unit is found in south central Utah and makes up the northwest corner of the main Paunsaugunt unit. This area is not managed to hold a high population of elk and tags can be difficult to fill at times. This area is very conducive to glassing which will play an important role in locating and successfully harvesting an elk.
This area is not managed to hold high populations of elk but decent hunting can be found here.
The entire west side of the unit is comprised mostly of open and generally flat prairie-type land with very little tree cover. From here ridgelines rise sharply off the valley floor and head in an eastward direction. Many finger ridges and drainages will be encountered here leaving great hiding places for elk. Several roads and ATV trails lead into most places within the unit but hunters should expect the hunt to be physically exhausting at times.
In the lower elevation areas to the west hunters will encounter large open expanses of sage, native grasses, and periodic patches of pinyon-juniper. The mountainous area to the west will see far more tree cover from ponderosa pine and pinyon-juniper. Periodic areas will be broken up by small pocket meadows and cliffed rock outcroppings. Aspen can be found in some draws but water will need to be present. The mountainous areas are easy to glass but can also hide elk with little trouble.
This area is largely public and sports a healthy road and trail system which makes for excellent access for hunters. Even with the great system hunters may still need to traverse cross country to locate elk which can be physically taxing. ATVs can make travel much easier as well as opens more options due to several ATV trails in the region.
There are not any modern lodging options found within the unit but a few choices can be found in the town of Panguitch to the north of the hunting area. Groceries and sporting goods will need to be purchased prior to the hunt beginning.
Roughly 150 square miles

ATV’s can make traveling around the hunting area much quicker and easier
The closest modern lodging options will be found in Panguitch which is located just north of the unit.
Sporting goods and groceries are not available within the unit and will need to be purchased prior to the hunt beginning.
