This large unit is found in north central Utah amd is home to a good migratory elk herd. Hunters will find lots of public access opportunities here but will need to skirt reservation lands which are not huntable. This area is very conducive to glassing which will likely be the best option for locating elk during the hunt.
Good elk hunting can be found here but hunters will need to stay on their toes to avoid tribal lands and to locate elk
This area has a lot of terrain variation though elevation gain/loss is generally fairly small. The northern end of the hunting area is mostly flat with very little vegetation. The middle section of the unit will see a larger increase in elevation changes as well as terrain relief. Here, many ridges and finger ridges make up the landscape making for small pockets of habitat throughout much of the area. On the extreme southern end of the unit, hunters will encounter the Bad Land Cliffs where the tall ridgelines will abruptly drop off into the Argyle Creek drainage.
The northern half of the unit is mostly void of vegetation cover and is comprised of large expanses of native grass, sage, and sporadic patches of pinyon-juniper. The mid-elevation areas will see much of the same although the pinyon-juniper cover will become much denser. The highest elevations on the southern end of the unit will contain large stands of mature pines and firs though many of these areas have burned in recent years. Overall hunters will find great glassing options here through every elevation profile.
This area is largely public and will give hunters plenty of options when it comes to access. A large portion of the unit to the north east and west will be comprised on tribal reservation lands and are closed to hunting. Land ownership maps and software may be necessary to avoid these areas. Overall the terrain is fairly easy to traverse but hunts will encounter lots of small ridges that will need to be climbed and descended when covering ground. Connecting creek bottoms can be a great way to reduce physical exertion but will make the overall distance hiked to a particular spot a little longer. A good road system ran be found here but roads can be rough and ATVs are recommended.
A few modern lodging options can be found in Duchesne in the northwest corner of the unit. Some grocery and sporting good needs can be found here but specialty needs will need to be met prior to the hunt beginning.
