This unit is found in south central Utah and lies to the southwest of the town of Antimony. This unit is almost entirely public land with many areas being roadless. Hunters will find no issue finding areas to hunt as well as areas to escape pressure. The terrain here can be very rough and physical conditioning will be very important.
Good elk hunting can be found here but hunters need to be prepared to work hard to get to an elk down and packed out.
This unit is home to some very steep and rough country. This area is generally made up of a high elevation ridgeline that makes up the western border with several main ridge lines running east down into the east fork of the Sevier River. From these main ridgelines, many finger ridges branch off creating microhabitats all over with plenty of areas for elk to hide. Small cliff bands can be found at the tops of many south-facing ridgelines. Overall hunters will find that traversing this country can be taxing and mentally exhausting. Sticking to big prominent ridgelines that afford some glassing vistas will be the best way to efficiently cover ground.
On the eastern side of the unit in some of the lower lying areas hunters will find a largely sage and oak brush dominated landscape with sporadic pockets of pinyon juniper. As the elevation is increased the pinyon juniper will begin to thin as larger stands of fir and aspen crop up in higher density. Large meadows of sage, grass, and grass will be found interspersed throughout. In the highest areas tree cover will be much heavier with mature stands of spruce, lodgepole, and some ponderosa pines. Cover is great in most of the mid elevation areas and up though some good glassing still exists.
With this area containing so much public land hunters will find a ton of access options when it comes to locating elk. A good road system will take hunters around the perimeter of the unit though very few roads will actually lead into the center of the hunting area. Hunters will find it fairly easy to escape competition and should be able to find mostly unpressured elk.
There are no modern lodging options found within the unit and the closest options are just over an hour away in Bryce Canyon. Most hunters will generally opt to RV/truck camp or backpack hunt.Sporting good needs and groceries will need to be purchased prior to the hunt beginning.
