This unit is found in north central Utah and lies along the Wyoming border. A decent amount of elk can be found here with the highest populations being composed of migrating elk. This area is largely private and hunters will find it very tough to escape any competition.
Decent hunting can be found here although access issues can quickly frustrate hunters.
This area is primarily expansive prairie but it does feature some very broken terrain and plenty of areas for animals to hide in plain sight. Even the steepest areas hunters will have very little trouble when it comes to traversing the unit. A lack of public land distribution will make it difficult for hunters to ever get much further than a half mile from any road.
In most of the unit hunters will find large expanses of sage, natural grasses, and periodic juniper. The western edge of the unit will see more vegetation cover on north facing slopes in the form of thick pockets of pinyon juniper and oak brush. These areas can be very thick and will be perfect spots for elk to hide. The northwest corner of the unit will see far more vegetation cover with large stands of aspen, pine, and fir found on north facing slopes making for excellent elk habitat.
This area has a huge road system making for easy access into any of the public areas. Public land distribution is low here which will make escaping competition hard. The land is very checkerboarded here making cross-country travel difficult. At least one road passes through each public section giving hunters multiple options but it can be difficult to find elk in a shootable location.
There are no modern lodging options found within the unit but several choices can be found in Evanston, Wyoming which is located just outside of the unit. Sporting goods and grocery needs will need to be met prior to leaving for the hunt.
