This large unit located in central Utah covers the southern end of the primary Central Mountains, Manti unit. There is a large percentage of public land to hunt on with loads of access options. Physical effort will be high in most of this unit but escaping pressure and crowds will be an easy task for the most part.
With loads of public land, good elk numbers, and plenty of areas to escape crowds, any hunter willing to work for it can be in for a good hunt here.
The very western edge of the unit will see a mostly flat valley bottom that consists primarily of developed farm land and urban areas. From the valley floor, large prominent ridge lines rise quickly and climb steadily for thousands of feet and several miles. Small finger ridges popup frequently creating plenty of micro environments for elk to hide in.
The lower elevations along the western side of the unit mostly consist of your typical high desert vegetation- sagebrush, cactus, grasses, and scattered pinyon juniper. In the higher elevations, aspen, pine, and fir will become much more common and will provide excellent habitat for the elk. In the highest elevations the tree cover will give way to aspen bowls of grasses, sage, oak brush, subalpine fir, and some aspen patches. Some rock rims will also crop up, particularly on the southern half of the area.
Access into public lands is excellent in this unit and hunters will have no trouble locating thousands of acres of public opportunity. Good road systems provide access on all sides of the unit, with the central portion of the unit being primarily roadless. Good trail systems can be found leading into the roadless areas and will give some hunters the ability to escape the crowds.
Modern lodging options can be found in every town in the unit with the most options located in Manti. Groceries can also be found in each of these towns. Sporting goods can be found in moderation -hunters will want to fill most of these needs prior to the hunt.
