This unit has steep and rugged mountain peaks that are home to mountain goats. Prepared hunters can have a great hunt for a mature billy.
Utah has some good mountain goat hunting, with decent habitat and healthy populations. Those who are willing to put forth the effort can have a chance at a mature billy.
The tops of the mountains are steep and rugged, perfect for mountain goats. Off of the mountain, there are steep creek drainages leading down to the valley floor. Just up from the valley floor are rolling foothills. With all of the ridges and steep drainages, there are a lot of areas for game to hide where they may not get pressured.
The low elevations on this unit are dry, desert rolling hills, flats, and canyon country. Some grass, prickly-pear cactus and sagebrush with scattered pinyon pines and juniper trees can also be found. Middle elevations are covered in ponderosa pines and oak brush, while sagebrush continues through this elevation. The higher elevations have scattered aspen groves with the steep slopes covered in conifer forests. The mountain tops have large grassy meadows with scattered ponds and thick aspen and conifer forest.
National Forest or desert land managed by the BLM, giving great public access. There is road access on all sides of the unit with well-maintained dirt roads leading to less-maintained four-wheel-drive roads or ATV trails.
American Fork and Midway are just a couple of areas that have lodging, gas, groceries, and other supplies. There are multiple campgrounds located around the mountain goat habitat that hunters can use. Camping is also permitted on most of the public land throughout the unit.
