This unit is found in central Utah and makes up the southern portion of the main Central Mtns, Manti unit. Hunters will find loads of public land and some awesome hunting opportunities here. The country can be very rough but hunters will find little trouble in distancing themselves from competition.
The hunting conditions can be tough due to terrain but any hunters willing to work for it should be in for a good hunt.
This area is very mountainous with large and steep ridge lines, deep valleys, and areas to get away from pressure. On both the eastern and western borders hunters will encounter low lying and generally flat area but most of these are private. Throughout the remainder of the unit hunters will be looking at steep climbs into most of the hunting areas.
This area features a fairly typical vegetation makeup of pinyon juniper and sage in the lower lying areas as well as south slopes and pine and fir in dense stands on all north facing slopes. Oak brush can be found throughout the entirety of the unit and can make cross country travel difficult and frustrating at times.
Hunters will find great public access here thanks to miles of public land. There are several roadless areas for those willing to hike but the access into these areas can be physically demanding. A good road system is found here though most of these fall in creek bottoms leaving hunters with hiking up as their only option. Trails can be found spread throughout the area making access into backcountry areas easier.
There are a few options for lodging in Salina on the southwest corner of the unit. Hunters wanting to thunt the east side of the unit may need to RV or primitive camp. Groceries and some generic sporting goods can be found in most towns within the unit though hunters will need to meet specialty gear needs prior to leaving for the hunt.
