This large unit is found in central Utah, and northwest of the town of Price. Good elk numbers can be found here along with good public access. This area is very conducive to glassing which will ultimately play into successfully punching a tag.
Hunters will enjoy good elk numbers and good access options here. Filling a tag will still require some physical effort but success won’t be hard to find for those willing to work for it.
Most of the southeast corner of this unit has prime wintering habitat for elk and features some elevation relief but not a huge amount. Vegetation cover is somewhat limited, but draws and drainages generally see a heavier presence of cover. Some of the ridges can climb several thousand feet and physically accessing these areas can take some serious effort. With this season taking place later in the year, hunters should find easier areas to hunt elk due to snow pushing elk into migration areas.
The eastern side of the unit is mostly bare with little to no vegetation on the flats and pinyon juniper in the draws and coulees. From there, the ridge lines climb quickly and become heavily vegetated in spots with pinyon juniper, sage, oak brush, and aspen. Trees and vegetation will be sparse in some areas with large expanses of sage and oak brush. Pine and spruce will be found in good concentrations in the highest areas and can be good areas to focus on early in the season if heavy snows are not yet present.
This area has a good representation of public land and hunters will not have any trouble finding areas to hunt. Good road systems move through most of the unit giving hunters multiple options for accessing areas as well as packing animals out. Land ownership can get fairly checkerboarded throughout the central portion of the unit, so land ownership maps can be a huge asset.
There are several options for lodging located in Price, on the southeast corner of the unit. Additionally, Spanish Fork, located just northwest of the unit, features several options as well. Groceries can be found in either of these towns but any specialty sporting good needs will need to be met prior to the hunt.
Roughly 580 square miles
50% public land
Elevations range from 5,600- 9,000 feet
Main roads of access will include Highway 10, Highway 6, and the Energy Loop Scenic Byway
ATV’s can make traveling much easier
Modern lodging options are found in Price and Spanish Fork which is located just northwest of the unit
Groceries can be found in both towns but sporting good needs will likely need to be met prior to the hunt
