This unit is found in west central Utah and lies just southeast of Beaver. Hunters will find great elk hunting, good road systems, and a pile of public land here. Elk can be found in good numbers and hunters willing to put in the physical effort can find success.
Elk numbers have been great in this unit and hunters can expect a great hunt with some effort.
This unit has an excellent mixture of everything southern Utah has to offer. In the lower elevations, the country will be much more open and gentle in terms of elevation relief. As the elevation increases so too does the vegetation and elevation gain. Physical exertion can be high in this unit and hunters need to be prepared to hike and pack out animals.
In the lower lying elevation zones, hunters will find a healthy mix of sage, native grasses, and pinyon juniper. This will stay much the same as elevation climbs, but oak brush and aspen will become much more apparent in the mid elevation areas. In the highest areas, spruce and fir will grow in high density providing excellent habitat for elk.
From an opportunity standpoint, hunters have a pile of options when it comes to this unit. Public land encompasses a huge portion of the area giving hunters miles of areas to try. Great road systems give hunters access to most of the big ridge systems and leave multiple options for packing animals out. Physically accessing some of the areas can be taxing and tough for some. Some elk will be killed close to roads, though these are usually moving herds and opportunities are more happenstance. Somewhat unpressured elk can be found in harder to reach areas.
There are a few modern lodging options that can be found in Beaver on the west side of the unit, as well as Circleville to the east. Groceries and some sporting goods can be found in either of these towns, among others, but specialty gear needs will likely need to be met prior to leaving on the hunt.
