Terrain
Much of the central portion of the unit is comprised of Valley Mountains which offer many drainages and ridges for hunters to explore. Elevations aren't extreme in this area but hunters will still want to be physically prepared for the hunt. North-facing slopes will be heavy in vegetation but many of the south, east, and west facing slopes can be glassed with relative ease. Most of the lower elevation areas will consist of rolling hills and private lands, including agriculture.
Roughly 395 sqaure miles
75% public land
Elevations range from 5,000 - 7,500 feet
Vegetation
Low elevations consist mainly of grass and sagebrush with a few croplands at lower elevations. Middle and high elevations have foothills covered with pinyon, juniper, sagebrush, Bigtooth Maple and oak brush with grassy ridges.
Access
Private property largely surrounds the Valley Mountains but most of the public land in this range is accessed by dirt roads and ATV trails that can be reached from public roads
Camping and Lodging
Most hunters camp along dirt roads but some modern lodging options can be found on the southern end of the unit in Gunniosn and Centerfield.
