On The Ground
This district is located south of Dillon and encompasses the Blacktail Mountain Range and the Sage Creek prairies. The area is largely comprised of public land with intermingled private that restricts access in some areas. Much of this district is high plains and desert terrain with the Blacktail Mountains making up the northern portion of the region. Good numbers of elk, mule deer and whitetails exist throughout the district.
This district is known for holding a large elk population. Due to the proximity of this district to the town of Dillon, hunting pressure can be high. This area is not known for trophy class bulls, but opportunity to harvest a branch antlered bull is good during both the archery and rifle seasons. Good numbers of whitetail deer are found in the northern portion of the region and good mule deer hunting can be found in the high plains along Sage Creek.
Terrain
This district begins on the north in the town of Dillon and stretches south over the Blacktail Mountain Range and down through the Sage Creek prairies to the town of Dell. Most of this region is big open high rolling prairie country at high elevations. The Blacktail Mountains are a small and fairly moderate mountain range, consisting of long open ridges and timbered drainages.

Vegetation
The Blacktail Mountains are comprised of high open ridges covered in mountain wildflowers, native grasses, sagebrush and pockets of ponderosa pine forest. Rolling down to the south prairies of Sage Creek and the surrounding hills there are wide open spaces of native grass and sagebrush for miles. Wildflowers and thick buck brush are found all over the hillsides and in the creek beds.
Access
Public access in this district is very good throughout most of the area. There is a good mix of BLM, state land and Block Management Areas available for hunters. There are a mix of public roads throughout the district providing good access for most of the year, some roads are not maintained and become impassible late in the rifle season.
Camping and Lodging
This district has lots of public land and is also close to the town of Dillon which makes day hunting from a hotel very reasonable. Camping in the district is mostly done on BLM lands and hunters will typically pick a spot near their hunting area and camp near the side of the road.
