14,270-foot Greys and 14,265-foot Torreys Peaks located along the Continental Divide are surrounded by peaks over 13,000 feet. Grizzly, Stevens, Wide-Awake and Deadman Gulch are etched deep into mountain slopes.
Surrounding alpine lakes are fields of wildflowers, barren ground willows, moss and lichens. Below the timberline large stands of spruce, fir, ponderosa and lodgepole pine and aspen are broken up by open grassy parks. Near ridges and creeks willows, mountain mahogany, oak brush and aspens dot the landscape. Close to the bottoms of the gulch aspen, cottonwood and willows can line creeks.
