Many of the old timers simply made tea. Or camp coffee, finely-ground coffee stirred into water just off the boil, allowed to settle and steep for 6 minutes, and decanted with a steady hand. Always works for me!

Bendrix, If you like instant coffee, then keep drinking it! You definitely can't beat the weight advantage instant offers. I just know plenty of people in addition to myself who do not like instant, hence why I searched for some other options.

Can't agree with you on instants like Starbucks Vias packets. Ive used them for years and find the coffe to be great. Super light and nothing to dispose of. Sure, I like a good cup of coffee and will go out of my way for one, but seriously, when its all on your back, I can compromise a bit. Plus, I like some sweetener in the cup..
