The Bear River Elk Zone is located in the southeast corner of the state and along the Utah border. Mountainous high country can be found here along with heavily timbered slopes. Public access is decent in most of the units with the most being found in unit 78. Most south and east-facing slopes will provide great glassing opportunities while north-facing aspects will provide excellent cover for elk herds
The units found within the Bear River zone tend to be mountainous with great terrain exaggeration and plenty to explore. In general, timber cover is dense but open slopes can still be found providing excellent feed and glassing opportunities. Physically traversing areas can be tough at times but a good road system and OHV trails can generally cut down on some major difficulties for hunters.
A decent amount of public land can be found within the zone with the most being in unit 78. A healthy road and trail system is found throughout the area and will provide access to many of the high country areas. Hunters will still need to put on some boot miles to access the most remote areas but this is still plenty doable. Due to the high amount of OHV use in the area, it can be slightly difficult to escape pressure at times. Motor vehicle use maps are recommended.
