On Monday, Nov. 29, the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) will open up the application period for a special draw for limited entry seasons for elk, mule deer and whitetail deer. You only have until 11:59 p.m. (Arizona time) on Friday, Dec 3 to apply and those who are drawn for the limited entry tags will be notified by AZGFD during the week of Dec. 6, according to a press release.
These new opportunities are not the same as the annual Arizona draws, which occur in February, June and October. Drawing one of these special tags does not preclude you from applying for other hunts nor does it impact any of your bonus points. Further, any harvested animals from these special hunts are excluded from annual bag limits. The goal of the special seasons is to raise money to “maintain current operations and limit or eliminate the need to increase license and hunt permit-tag fees,” according to the agency. It will cost residents $13 to apply; nonresidents will pay $15.
There will be a total of six limited entry tags available (two per species) and are recommended as follows:

Whitetail deer (antlered): Jan. 1 to Feb. 28, 2022. Open areas: 29, 30A, 30B, 31, 32, 33, 34A, 34B, 35A, 35B, 36A, 36B, 36C.
Whitetail deer (antlered): Jan. 1 to Feb. 28, 2022. Open areas: 21, 22, 23, 24A, 24B.
