Hunters will be able to tag their harvest with an app in Oregon beginning with the 2019 season. This week, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) announced the launch of its new electronic licensing system effective Dec. 1. The new system will allow hunters to “carry their documents electronically” via smartphone or tablet and tag their harvest using an app that will even work offline.

“Customers have been asking for the ability to carry tags on their mobile phones and for a more mobile-friendly system,” said Curt Melcher, ODFW Director. “We’re pleased this new system will bring both cost savings and an improved customer experience for Oregon’s hunters and anglers.”

ODFW estimates a savings of $2 million annually because the electronic system eliminates the use of specialty paper and computer equipment and license sales agents will not need to purchase special equipment for the new system. Of course, if you want to keep a paper license or tag with you rather than use the app, you’ll be able to print one off yourself using your home printer and regular paper.
