On The Ground
This area is known for big elk herds and high success rates. The terrain here helps hunters to glass over a lot of area from high mountains, giving hunters a better vantage point.
Good populations of elk reside within this unit. The bigger elk typically come from the more rugged and remote locations. Those willing to put in the work will most likely have a successful hunt. Weather late in the season can be beneficial to get herds moving.
Terrain
There are mainly long and deep canyons and sagebrush flats here. The Wyoming Mountain Range provide vantage points for glassing and locating elk herds.

Vegetation
The eastern part of this unit is dominated by sagebrush and prairie grass. The mountains in the west will have aspen, willows and conifers and the ranches and creek bottoms will typically have willows and cottonwood trees.
Access
Most of this area is BLM land with ranch lands and good public access and roads are typically marked with BLM signs. The western part of this unit transitions from BLM to National Forest land. This unit can be found in Western Wyoming, north of La Barge Creek and east of the Greys River. This area is also west of the Green River and south of South Cottonwood Creek. 4-wheel drive and chains are recommended during the late season hunts.
Camping and Lodging
Some hunters will camp remotely on BLM land and Forest Service land in the unit with no permit needed. Motel lodging can be found east of the unit in Big Piney and La Barge.
