On The Ground
This unit is made up of scenic mountains in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, north of the Green River drainage. This is more of a secluded unit and it would be smart to plan for camping within the unit or packing in. Located east of the Jackson area, this unit is quite a distance from most amenities. That being said, there is a healthy number of elk throughout and this is part of the famed grizzly country. Those willing to put in the effort should have no problem finding success in this unit. This is a wilderness free unit, so nonresidents won't find any restrictions here.
This area is rugged and steep with elk found all over. This is a decent-sized area with plenty of drainages to hunt and is a good place for hunters to take branch-antlered bulls.
Terrain
This unit reaches from the valley floor of the Gros Ventre River and Fish Creek, east to the mountaintops near the Continental Divide. Terrain is more gently contoured at lower elevations, but becomes steep and rugged with higher elevations never topping out above timberline.
Roughly 161 square miles
100% public land
Elevations from 7,500-9,900 feet
Vegetation
Low and middle elevations have grassy and sage-covered meadows and hills mixed with Douglas fir and aspens. Higher up near the divide, the country has thick spruce fir forest, with a lot of grassy slopes, meadows and basins.
Access
There is good public access here along the Gros Ventre River Road and Union Pass Road, with several secondary logging roads. This unit is covered by a large trail system, and packing in with horses or backpack hunting is recommended, but day hunts are possible. This area is bordered by the North Fork of Fish Creek on the northwest, the Continental Divide on the east and the Union Pass Road and Gros Ventre River on the south. There is no wilderness area here. Some popular trailheads for this unit are Bacon Creek, Pass Creek and Sheridan.
Camping and Lodging
Jackson is the closest town and has a lot of options for lodging. Grocery stores, gas stations and other stores are also available. Camping is allowed on all public ground for up to 16 days in one location. There are no designated campgrounds in the unit. Hunters can camp in
