This is a big unit and can be found in lower elevations with rolling sagebrush and grassland habitat. There are not a lot of elk here, and the majority are close to private land agriculture fields. That being said, good bulls are taken from this unit every year. This unit is primarily BLM land with all sorts of access.

Privately owned agriculture fields hold a lot of the elk here. There is a lot of public BLM land, but not a lot of resident elk. Hunters should try the land bordering fields near Burlington since it can be one of the best places to find elk.

Low elevations mainly have rolling grasslands and sagebrush. Hunters can expect easy access and hiking. The boundaries of the unit are surrounded by privately owned agricultural fields.

Roads run through the unit across BLM land. During the September general season hunt, road conditions are generally good, but there can still be some heavy rain or early snowstorms. Highways are the boundaries of the unit with several roads from all sides going into Unit 66.

A lot of native grasses, forbs and sagebrush can be seen throughout most elevations here. Agricultural alfalfa fields on the private land that surround this unit provide most of the elk habitat.

Cody, Wyoming can be found on the northwestern edge of the unit. This town has a lot of hotels, campgrounds, gas stations, markets, restaurants and bars. Thermopolis, Wyoming sits on the southern edge of Unit 66 and has gas, dining and some lodging. Camping is allowed on public land here. Burlington and Greybull can be found near the northern boundary and also have gas, food and limited lodging.
