Comprised of some National Forest in the Bighorn Mountains, high plains desert and ranchlands located in the north-central part of the state, this unit contains expansive amounts of public lands. Called Horse Creek, it is bordered by the U.S. Highway 14-A and the hunt Mountain Road on the north, U.S. Highway 14 on the east and south and the Bighorn River on the west.

A unit of rugged terrain with elk located mainly on National Forest. The bigger elk typically come from the more rugged and remote locations in the canyons below U.S. Highway 14-A and the Hunt Mountain Road.

This unit contains many square miles of mountainous elk habitat. Steep, rugged, timbered canyons are common. The higher country is more moderate with sagebrush and grasslands. The terrain gradually gets rougher as you drop in elevation into deep and dark canyons. There are some roadless areas in this area for those willing to hike and hunters should be prepared physically for this unit.

Public access in this unit is good but rough. It contains several rough forest roads and almost all of them originate on the Hunt Mountain road along the divide. This road is even rougher when wet and sometimes impassable with snowstorms. Packing in with horses or backpack hunting is not a bad idea, but day hunts are more common.

This unit is dominated by conifer forests, especially in the deep canyons. Willow filled creek bottoms and expansive grasslands and sagebrush are common on ridges and in the upper elevations. Pockets of aspen are located throughout.

Greybull is the nearest town of any size and offers several options for lodging. Groceries, gas, sporting goods and other amenities are available as well. Camping is allowed on all public ground for up to 16 days in one location. Most hunters camp along the forest roads and there is no shortage of places to camp. Granite Creek and Bald Mountain are public campgrounds.
