On The Ground
This area can be found east of Lander and southeast of Riverton. Wilderness Study Areas, Walk In Areas and BLM have thousands of acres of public land. Mule deer and whitetail deer numbers in this area are low.For nonresidents, this area is part of Region Q and tags drawn for this area are also valid in: 96, 98.
Mature mule deer are in the area, but are harder to find. Getting access to creek bottoms on a private ranch can give hunters a good chance to take a mature whitetail.
Terrain
The Sweetwater River runs through the Sweetwater Basin along the southern edge draining into Pathfinder Reservoir. Tin Cup and Long Creek can be found above the grasslands and drainages here. Hunters can find several Wilderness Study Areas in the Granite Mountain Range.

Vegetation
Willow and cottonwood can be found in the river bottoms here, with grasslands and sagebrush making up most of the unit. Steep breaks and mountains in the area have juniper and pine on their slopes. Small irrigated cropland can be found in the eastern portions of the area.
Access
There is a lot of good opportunity for hunters to hunt on public land here. There are several Wilderness Study Areas that can be found in the area. Lankin Dome can be accessed from the Agate Flats Road, Savage Peak access requires landowner permission, Split Rock can be accessed from U.S. Highway 287 at the Split Rock Pullout. There are over 9,000 acres of Walk In Areas throughout the entire unit.
Camping and Lodging
Hunters can camp on public land here. Lander and Riverton have several lodging and accommodation options here with RV campgrounds, restaurants, medical facilities and 24/7 gas and diesel.
