On The Ground
This area can be found in the central area of Wyoming near Riverton and Shoshoni. This unit is known to have good mule deer and whitetails bucks, with more opportunity for bigger mule deer.
The deer populations here are very good, with winter weather being less harsh, winter kill is typically not a factor.
Terrain
The high desert area here has a range of rolling hills and open prairies. Big mule deer can be found in this open terrain, with whitetails typically found near creek bottoms or on irrigated fields.

Vegetation
There is a lot of sagebrush in the lower elevations. In the higher elevations, junipers, a few ponderosa pines and patches of quakey can be found. Finding water sources can also help hunters find bucks.
Access
There is a lot of great public land access in this area, making it easier to harvest a nice buck, but getting permission to hunt private land can increase a hunter’s chance of success as well.

Camping and Lodging
Riverton and Shoshoni are the closest towns here and have lodging and other accommodations. Camping is available, and there are several spots to access with travel trailers or tents.
