On The Ground
Unit 37 is located east of Thermopolis. This unit has a good amount of public access when combining BLM, state land and WY Game and Fish Public access areas. Private ranches are located in the lower elevations. This is a limited quota area for both residents and nonresidents.
This area is known for the hot springs that are found near the river toward the west. Being a limited quota area, there will be low hunter densities on this hunt. This area is known for good mule deer found throughout the unit and and quality whitetails found in the lower areas, mostly on private ranches.
Terrain
Most of the unit is sagebrush covered rolling hills with some steep cuts and scattered canyons. The area is also very rocky.
Roughly 381 square miles
51.7% public land
Elevations from 4,365-7,555 feet
Vegetation
The lower elevations are sagebrush flats, prairie grasses and agriculture fields. As you gain elevation, you will find pockets of juniper trees.
Access
County roads will have to be relied on for access to state and BLM land. Private acres block most public access. WY Game and Fish Public Access Area near Thermopolis allows walk in hunting. Maps showing land ownership will be critical in deciphering public from private ground.
Wet and snowy conditions make for slick and muddy roads; four-wheel drive and tire chains are recommended for both conditions
Camping and Lodging
Thermopolis, on the west end of the unit, has good lodging options as well as grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants. Camping is allowed on BLM ground unless stated otherwise.
