This unit consists largely of rugged National Forest land with portions of wilderness areas in the central and western regions. Areas on the southern boundary run along the main access road and consist of private irrigated crop lands. This area is known for a high density of grizzly bears.For nonresidents, this area is part of Region F and tags drawn for this area are also valid in: 105, 106, 110, 111, 113, 114, 115.**New for 2018, there is a 4 pt. antler restriction for mule deer. Be sure and check regulations before heading into the field.

Hunters in this unit have opportunities for a trophy buck when hunting the travel corridors in late October and early November. Whitetail are typically only found on the private land agriculture bottoms. Being able to endure the cold and stay behind your optics will greatly increase your odds at finding a trophy mule deer.

This area has a lot of creek drainages side by side that drain into the south fork, which runs along the main road. Steep terrain with rocky ledges are found throughout the unit. Little hidden pockets provide great hideaways for big bucks. Gaining elevation and picking apart the large open country with optics will be the best way to find big bucks.

Wilderness

Under Wyoming law nonresidents are not permitted to hunt big game or trophy game in any federally designated wilderness areas without the presence of a licensed guide or resident companion. The resident companion must first get a free non-commercial guide license from a Game and Fish office. The law does not prohibit nonresidents from hiking, fishing or hunting game birds, small game, or coyotes in wilderness areas.

Even though there are several trailhead locations to access the wilderness area, no motorized travel is permitted in the wilderness. All nonresidents are required to have a guide when hunting in wilderness areas. Most trailheads are located close to the main road but four wheel drive is still recommended.

Wilderness and National Forest areas are dominated by conifer forests with small aspen patches. The creeks and streams are lined with willows that lead to sagebrush and grass flats in the eastern parts of the unit.

Camping is permitted inside of the National Forest with no permit required. Lodging is also located just east of the unit in the town of Cody.
