On The Ground

Located in the Pinedale region in the west center of Wyoming, this area offers a lot of public land and high antelope numbers. The long season dates increase the chances of finding a Boone and Crockett antelope.

This area is considered to be an average area for antelope hunting in Wyoming. This area has produced some great bucks in the past. More antelope will migrate from adjacent Area 88 as the season goes on and dates get later in the year. Good numbers of antelope.

Terrain

This area has rolling hills, ravines and drainages that give antelope lots of places to hide and seek cover. Hunters have numerous roads to travel and will be able to find areas with water and lots of antelope. Elevation is easily found throughout the unit giving access to plenty of areas to glass for antelope.

  • Roughly 977 square miles

  • 75.4% public land

  • Elevations from 6,800-10,100 feet

Most of the unit is made up of typical Wyoming vegetation, grass, sage and rabbitbrush. Very few trees are found throughout the majority of this unit. The western side of the unit at higher elevations has aspens, mixed conifer, occasional sage and grass flats.

Hunters have numerous access points throughout this unit. An ATV or side-by-side vehicle can be helpful for traveling through the unit quickly. Highway 189 runs along the eastern edge of the unit along the Green River, giving access to well-maintained gravel roads and a few two track type roads. Middle Piney Road cuts through the center of the unit and runs east to west, giving access to some two track type roads.

A couple of cabin rentals and hotels can be found in the nearby towns of Big Piney and Marbleton. Primitive or dispersed camping can be found throughout the unit on public land.
