On The Ground

Area 70, also referred to as Kendrick, is located in the central part of the state southwest of Casper. Comprised of high plains desert, this unit contains a large amount of private land, however, there are large tracts of public land and a few Walk-In Areas where hunters can hunt on private land.

This small area has limited public access but there are some options for the public land hunter. There is good terrain for stalking throughout the unit, but many antelope take refuge on private crop fields.

Terrain

This area consists of a variety of grassy or desert-like open prairies, with large basins, creek bottoms, and rolling hills that provide opportunities for stalking. Agricultural fields and pivots dot the landscape and public land is very scattered. Physcially accessing most of this area will be fairly simple and easy for most hunters.

  • Roughly 128 square miles

  • 21.9% public land

  • Elevations from 5,200–6,400 feet

This unit is composed of largely open land with sagebrush and grasslands. Private, irrigated croplands are distributed throughout the area and will draw antelope from the surrounding prairie.

This area is bordered by the North Platte River on the east, Wyoming Highway 220 on the south, the divide on Rattlesnake Mountain and County Road 319 on the west, and U.S. Highway 20 on the north. Public access in this unit is fair. Maintained county roads provide most of the access with some smaller 2-tracks leading to BLM land.

Casper is the closest town of any size, and offers many different options for lodging. Groceries, gas, and other amenities can be found here as well. Camping is allowed on all public ground for up to 16 days in one location.
