West of New Castle on the eastern edge of the state, this unit can prove challenging with scattered and generally small sections of public lands. The best odds for success will be found on private lands but public land hunters who stay diligent and committed can and do find success.
This can be a good hunt for average-scoring antelope. Public lands get heavy hunting pressure at times and getting access to private land may increase chances of success.
Unit 7 has a lot of rolling hills, ravines and drainages giving antelope places to hide and seek cover. Hunters can find several roads to travel and will be able to find areas with water and antelope to pursue. This unit has a lot of different terrain from flat to areas of rolling hills and drainages. Some areas of elevation can be found in order to glass long distances.
Access here is difficult due to the amount of private property and limited access to these properties. There are a few ranches with walk on access that hunters can gain access to. On public lands there are a lot of roads to travel and areas to walk into to hunt. Travel can become more difficult with rain. An ATV can help access areas on public land and can help travel throughout the unit.
Most of the unit consists of typical Wyoming vegetation. Grass and sage is the main vegetation. Not a lot of trees can be found throughout the majority of this area with the exception being a few pinyon and juniper trees scattered throughout.
There are lodging options in Gillette, Moorcroft and Upton Wyoming. These communities are located toward the north end of the unit and are located on the boundary of the unit. On the east side of the unit, more lodging and food options can be found in Newcastle. Camping is available on public lands but it will be difficult to find a good location away from dust and sun.
