On The Ground
This unit is found in the east-central portion of the state and lies to the southwest of the town of Douglas. A decent amount of public lands are found here but many of these are found in areas void of antelope habitat and antelope. Public land hunters can find success here but will need to work hard.
This area is comprised of private land mixed with national forest, BLM, and state lands. This unit has poor access to public land that is inhabited by antelope. Most antelope habitat is found on private lands at lower elevations.
Terrain
The open prairie here usually consists of rises, dry creeks, shallow valleys and low hills that support the species. Hunting antelope is commonly done in lower elevations of the area. Spot and stalk tactics will work great throughout the area as well as sitting over water during warmer periods.
Roughly 1,054 square miles
28.9% public land
Elevations from 4,563-6,210 feet
Vegetation
Hunters typically hunt more of a high plains area, with the opportunity to hunt in open plains and sagebrush, with little tree cover. Rolling hills, draws and rivers run through this area.
Access
This unit has poor public land access, with the majority of land being privately owned. Getting permission to hunt private land after having received a license can be hard. Research of public land hunting opportunities is advised before applying for a license.
Camping and Lodging
Douglas will be the main town in the unit and will provide hunters with access to lodging, gas, groceries, and more. Public camping is available on public lands throughout the unit and many public land hunters will opt fto go this route.
