On The Ground
This unit is found in north central Wyoming along the southern end of the Bighorn Mountains. Great amounts of public land are found here but most of these areas are mountainous, timbered, and will not hold much for antelope numbers. Private lands will dominate much of the huntable antelope terrain in the unit and what is public will typically see heavy hunting pressure.
Antelope populations in the Sheridan Region are at high levels, so most areas are designed to give hunters a lot of opportunities. The lack of public land opportunities can be a large hurdle for most hunters, though.
Terrain
The east side of this unit is mainly lowlands with big flats and a little terrain with small benches. As hunters get to higher elevations on the north and west sides, the land changes to higher elevation mountain terrain with meadows and steep slopes. There are a lot of areas to find elevation and glass.
Roughly 823 square miles
40% public land
Elevations from 4,600-10,200 feet
Vegetation
Most of the vegetation here consists of sage, pinyon and juniper. There are a lot of agriculture fields located throughout the unit on private land. As elevation gets higher, vegetation changes from sage and grass to mixed conifer and mountain meadows.
Access
Access here is difficult because of the amount of private property and limited entry to these properties. There are a few ranches with walk on access that hunters can get access to. On public land there are a lot of roads to travel and places to walk into and hunt. Travel gets harder in the rain, and ATVs can help with wet dirt roads.
Camping and Lodging
Lodging and food options can be found in the nearby town, Buffalo. There are a few campgrounds that can be found on public land, but they are located at higher elevations where antelope populations are smaller. If hunters have access to private land, there can be more options for dispersed camping.
