On The Ground

Area 10 is located in the north central part of the state, southeast of Sheridan. Comprised of high plains desert, this unit contains mostly private lands with some state land and very small amount of BLM. Decent numbers of antelope can be found here but public land can struggle witht he lack of public access options.

This area has very little public land and public access is poor. There are no walk in acccess areas in this unit. Hunters can use an outfitter to access private lands to greatly increase odds of success.

Terrain

This unit has a variety of grassy or desert-like open prairie with large basins, creek bottoms and rolling hills that provide opportunities for stalking. Private ranch and farm lands found in this area can draw antelope from the surrounding prairie.

  • Roughly 179 square miles

  • 13.3% public land

  • Elevations from 3,800–4,900 feet

The vegetation in this area is open high desert prairie with sagebrush and grasslands. Rocky bluffs, sagebrush, cedars and small trees are usually found at higher elevations. Overall, this area is very conducive to glassing.

Public access in this unit is poor and although some county roads cut through the unit, most do not reach the public areas. The area is bordered by U.S. Highway 14 on the north, U.S. Highway 16 on the east and Interstate 25 on the west.

Sheridan is the closest town and offers many options for lodging, groceries, gas and other amenities. Camping is allowed on all public ground for up to 16 days in one location. Hunters can camp in remote locations.
