Wyoming is one of the Western states that has hunting for eastern whitetail deer. This species of deer is fewer in number than mule deer, but still gives great opportunity. They are primarily in the northeast corner of the state near the Black Hills of South Dakota, but can also be found further west along river and creek drainages. Rifle hunting opportunities with rut activity can be found here and provide a great experience. A trophy Wyoming whitetail would be any buck over 130” Boone and Crockett, but bucks scoring over 150” B&C are harvested each year. Most of the prime whitetail habitat is found in private land, but a lot of hunting opportunity can be found on timbered forest public ground. Nonresident region tags are easily drawn and outfitters can provide a great hunt on private land.
