On The Ground
The Long Island unit is entirely Willapa National Wildlife Refuge, and therefore highly regulated. With the highpoint at only 200-ft, the small island makes for a very unique Roosevelt elk hunt worth checking out. With that being said, it’s not an easy hunt seeing as the island has incredibly thick habitat with lots of downed timber making hiking tough and noisy.
Elk here have learned over the years where the hunters travel in this unit.
Terrain
This unit has a thick conifer forest with multiple blowdowns, making it extremely physical hunting terrain. The terrain can be very wet as you walk through, even the thicker underbrush.
Roughly 9 square miles

Vegetation
An old growth conifer forest sits in this unit, with lots of downed timber. Lush undergrowth consisting of grasses, ferns and other broadleaf plants grow where the sun penetrates the canopy.
