On The Ground
This GMU is an even mix of private and public lands with a large continuous block of state right in the middle of the unit. Rayonier Timberlands is the largest private landowner with smaller landowners mixed throughout.
Rainy weather can be a problem in November.
Terrain
This is not a steep unit, it mostly consists of rolling hills draining to the coast. There is a good set of roads throughout the unit and some glassing points. Rayonier private lands offer the best glassing options and the best mix of forest age class. Locked gates are common and can change seasonally.
Roughly 122 square miles
38% public land
Elevations range from Sea Level – 1,400 feet
Vegetation
Clear cuts are typically replanted by timber companies. There are also multiple single-family residential properties and small farms. Tidal flats and marshland are common as elevations rise just a few hundred feet above sea level.
Access
It is easy to access state grounds in this unit, however, it is best to check into private land access as well to maximize your hunting opportunities.

Vast road network, watch for locked gates that will change with logging activities
Camping and Lodging
Primitive camping in the National Forest is allowed for the majority of the year, but various fire bans and forest road closures may happen, so double check any restrictions or permits necessary prior to your trip. Some overnight camping may be allowed on certain Rayonier access permits as well. If you are interested in lodging and being closer to gas stations, restaurants, and a grocery store, your best options will be in the tiny town of Fort Prairie.
