The is the only GMU in the western portion of District 16 that does not have boarding saltwater, and is the unit with the most public land. If you hunt the park boundary, carry a GPS so you know where you are at all times. Highway 101 circles the northern and western borders with Olympic National Park making up the eastern and southern borders.

There are not a lot of clearcuts on National Forest land making this a hard hunt.

This mountainous unit is located on the north side of the National Park with two main drainages, the Sikum River and the Sol Duc. There are large tracts of old growth forest with minimal unimproved roads. Outside the National Forest there is also some state land, the largest piece on the western edge outside of Forks Prairie. State grounds have a bit of past clear cuts. Highly fragmented private ground is irregularly thrown in the middle, many of these pieces of private ground have been heavily clear cut.

This unit has a large amount of public land with a decent set of access roads. There are some locked gates that lead to private lands and some roads may be seasonally closed.

Old growth timber in the National Forest has various stages of past and present clear cuts. Clear cuts outside of the National Forest are typically replanted by timber companies, and also have multiple single-family residential properties.

Primitive camping in the National Forest is allowed for the majority of the year, however, various fire bans and forest road closures may happen, so double check any restrictions or permits necessary prior to your trip. If you are more interested in lodging and being closer to gas stations, restaurants, and a grocery store, your best options will be Forks Prairie.
