On The Ground
Guemes is a small island between Bellingham Channel and William Point on the mainland. There is hunting opportunity within this small GMU, however, the style of hunt is certainly not for everyone.
Getting access can be a challenge in this unit.
Terrain
This small island just above sea level holds a healthy population of deer. The area is thickly brushed and has lots of very small single-family residential properties. A GPS will help you know your hunting boundaries and will be useful for game retrieval as well.
Roughly 8 square miles
3% public land
Elevations range from Sea Level –600 feet
Vegetation
This island has thick, lush cover with small tracts of cleared land, a few hobby farms, and some pristine habitats that are critical to supporting wildlife populations. Tidal flats and marshland are common as elevations rise just a few hundred feet above sea level. There is a significant amount of introduced non-native decorative trees, shrubs and flowers, some of which are growing feral.
Access
Access is through private land and is best secured early.

Camping and Lodging
Unless you know someone who lives on the island, you will need to take the ferry or a private boat daily.
