On The Ground

This unit is one of the larger islands in the Salish Sea and located close to the Canadian border and Victoria, Canada. Like the other islands, it is also predominately privately held lands with one small track of BLM land. There is some hunting opportunity within this small GMU, however, the style of hunt is certainly not for everyone. If you’re looking for best private land access, presentation is key, some folks don’t mind a few pesky deer eating their garden hunted.

Most of the resident citizens of the island enjoy the deer and may be hard to receive hunting permissions from.

Terrain

This island lies just above sea level and has a decent population of deer. Thickly brushed and lots of very small single-family residential properties can be found throughout the unit. A GPS will help you know your hunting boundaries and useful for game retrieval as well.

  • 6% public land

  • Elevations range from Sea Level – 500 feet

This island is largely covered in thick vegetation with small tracks of cleared land, a few hobby farms and, some pristine habitats that are critical to supporting wildlife populations. Tidal flats and marshland are common as elevations rise's just a few hundred feet above sea level. A significant amount of introduced non-native decorative trees, shrubs, and flowers can also be found on the island.

Access is all private land and best secured early.

Unless you know someone who lives on the island, you will need to take the ferry or private boat daily.
