This unit is basically a large, forested mountain in the northern portion of the unit. Badger Mountain tops out at 4,200-ft and is dotted with single family homes and ranchettes. Several large drainages cut canyons out of this scenic mountain as it flows across a large flat bench to the south before dropping a thousand plus feet to the valley floor and the water’s edge below. The towns of East Wenatchee and Rock Island sit on the Columbia River, which forms the western and southern borders of this GMU. The unit as a whole is subdivided into many very small pieces of private, with personal use private homes and agriculture dominating land use. Mule deer are spread throughout the unit making for a good hunt with access. A few whitetails can be found along the Columbia River’s edge and on agricultural land.

Small private land sizes and numerous residential houses can make for a challenging hunt.

Badger Mountain dominates the northern landscape. The heavily forested north slope drains down to Pine and Corbaley Canyons. The more open south face drains to Bevington Canyon across a large flat plateau which is heavily dryland farmed. Three to five miles inland from the Columbia River is a large parallel rim that drops a thousand feet in elevation in less than a half mile. From the bottom of this rim elevation slowly drops to the river’s edge. This prime low ground is mostly irrigated farmland and urban sprawl.

Agricultural land here consists of fruit orchards and table vegetables along the Columbia River, with dry land farming, mainly wheat, grains and sugar beets, up on the large plateau. Badger Mountain has ponderosa pine forests broken with native grass meadows. At around 3,600-ft, the timber gives way to large rolling hills with few trees and buck brush lining the drainages. These large arid grasslands are comprised of sage and a variety of native bunch grass and are largely grazed by livestock, mainly cattle.

Access is very poor, so a GPS will be very important in order to access and hunt small odd shaped pieces of public land. Securing private land access is a good idea for hunters willing to put in a little extra effort.

There are very few public campgrounds in this unit. If you are more interested in a bed and a shower, and staying closer to gas stations, restaurants, and a grocery store, your best option is East Wenatchee.
