Along with deer, elk, and bear Washington also offers once in a lifetime hunting opportunities for Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep. Sheep hunting is conducted with Special Permits through the state draw and a few raffle permits. All permits are either ram only or ewe only. Washington is not known for producing a lot of trophy rams but the consistency of this has picked up in recent years with several rams over 190” being entered into the record books. Overall, sheep herds are doing well in Washington and only a few one-off cases of pneumonia among sheep have been recorded in recent years. In the end, anyone with a tag will find themselves with the adventure of a lifetime and a great hunt to remember forever. The state of Washington doesn't distinguish between the true Rocky Mountain Bighorns and California Bighorns, a subspecies to the Rocky's. The magority of sheep in the state are California Bighorns.
