Along with other big game species, Washington also offers once in a lifetime hunting opportunities for moose. Moose hunting is conducted with special permits and hunters can draw bull only, either sex or antlerless only permits. Moose units are located in the northeast corner of the state along the Idaho and Canadian borders. Overall moose populations are fairly stable, although, the neighboring state of Idaho is dealing with substantial population loss which could certainly become a problem in Washington in the coming years. Washington is not well known for producing high quantities of trophy class bulls, but the bulls that usually make it are above average. Hunters lucky enough to draw a tag can expect a good quality hunt with a decent amount of effort, generally leading to opportunities at a good representative of a mature Shiras Moose.
** Units listed below may not have a current hunt for this species. Units in this table are included if a significant part of the unit is found within the county.
Hunters who are unsuccessful in drawing a special permit will be granted a free bonus point
