On The Ground
Located in the northern part of the state, this unit has healthy herds of mule deer. With good public access and moderate to rough terrain, this area can give hunters an enjoyable hunt for mature bucks.
This unit has good public access to remote areas and the later season dates of this hunt can set hunters up for good opportunities at mature bucks. Pre-season scouting can help hunters locate bucks that can be spread throughout the unit.
Terrain
Leading out of farmground in Cache Valley the steep Bear River Mountain Ranges rises to rugged heights. Along the mountain range are steep creek drainages leading down to the foothills rolling out of the valleys.
Roughly 1,833 square miles
52% public land
Elevations from 4,500-10,000 feet
Vegetation
Low elevations are irrigated farmland, sagebrush, and oak brush. Continuing up through the middle elevations are oak brush and sagebrush with aspen, spruce and fir trees. Higher elevations have scattered aspen groves with steep slopes covered in conifer forests. Most of the high basins are grassy with short sagebrush.
Access
Much of the unit is part of the Cache National Forest, giving good public access. There is road access on all sides of the unit with well-maintained dirt roads leading to less-maintained 4-wheel-drive roads and ATV trails. There are some large private ranches mixed in with the public land, getting hunting access to private land can be difficult. The Mount Naomi Wilderness is closed to foot and horse traffic only.

4-wheel-drive recommended
Camping and Lodging
Most hunters camp along roads, there are several locations that have good, flat camping locations for travel trailers or tents. There are a couple of designated campgrounds open to the public. The Hardware Ranch WMA is also open to camping. Logan is located at the south end of the unit and offers lodging and services.
