On The Ground
With generous hunt dates and the ability to hunt deer later in the year, this can be a fun hunt. The weather during this hunt can be cold, but gives hunters the chance to take some great bucks.
Terrain
The majority of the unit is lower in elevation and is considered winter range. The valley floor is farmland and rolling flats with creeks running through them. There are also some foothills that roll throughout the unit.
Roughly 1,200 square miles
15% Private land
Elevation is from 4,800 - 6,500 feet
Vegetation
Most of the vegetation is irrigated crops or fields. There are sagebrush, grass, with cottonwoods lining some of the creek drainages. There are areas that have scattered pinyon pines and juniper trees as well.
Access
Much of the unit is private property or tribal lands, but there are some small sections of public land. There are well-maintained roads throughout the unit. Hunters should try and gain access to private property prior to the hunt.
Camping and Lodging
The unit is on the outskirts of the towns in the Uintah Valley. With Duchesne, Roosevelt and Vernal all in the unit there are plenty of options for hotels.
