On The Ground
This small unit is found in northern Utah and along the southern edge of the town of Herriman. The area is generally comprised of private lands with some parcels of BLM and huntable lands on the southern end of the unit. Deer will be fairly easy to locate in this small unit due to the overall small size of the sustainable habitat but the pressure can be heavy and deer can be hard to pattern.
A small amount of public land will be found here will which undoubtedly concentrate hunting pressure and make for unpredictable hunting conditions at times.
Terrain
The northeastern half of the unit is largely private residential or agricultural lands and mostly flat. The southern end of the unit will see much more elevation change as the ridgelines climb as much as two thousand feet off the valley floor. Here, hunters will encounter moderately timbered slopes, open faces, and plenty of glassing opportunities.
Roughly 30 square miles
15% public land
Elevations range from 5,000 - 7,400 feet
Vegetation
Low elevations in this unit have dry, desert rolling hills and flats generally comprised of native grasses, sagebrush and scattered patches of pinyon pines and juniper trees. Middle elevations are covered in ponderosa pines and oak brush, while sagebrush continues through this elevation as well. Higher elevations have scattered aspen groves with steep slopes covered in conifer forests.
Access
The biggest initial hurdle most hunters will encounter will be the lack of public lands throughout the unit. That being said, what is available for public hunting does feature a well laid out and maintained trail system. While this does provide easier access into the high country it does also attract more recreationists and hikers.
Camping and Lodging
Herriman's close reciprocity to Salt Lake City provides endless options for lodging, groceries, and sporting goods. Primitive options cannot be found within the unit.
