This unit is found in central Utah and features thousands of acres of public land for hunters to use. This hunt is centered around migrating elk and snow levels will make a huge impact on elk numbers. A good road system is found here providing good access into most areas on the unit.
This area can be good throughout the entire unit but it really gets good during periods of heavy snow.
This area is largely broken with rough terrain composed of steep ridges and deep cut draws. High elevation areas are generally long flat plateaus with steep fingers ridges leading off of these and into deep drainages. This area has scattered water pockets throughout the unit in some of the flat high elevation areas which can really spread out the elk due to an abundance of livable terrain.
The north, west, and south edges of the unit are primarily open country and high desert comprised of sage, grass, and scattered pinyon juniper. The central portion of the unit and to the eastern border will see large stands of pine and scattered aspen with small pocket meadows of grass on the high elevation flats. Glassing conditions are still good in the vegetated areas but still hunting through some of these areas may be necessary.
With the sheer amount of public found in this unit hunters will not have much trouble when looking for places to hunt. There are a few CWMU areas in the central portion of the unit that cannot be hunted. A good road system, will take hunters to most areas within the unit but cross country travel is likely when moving on elk.
Modern lodging can be found in Salina and Loa but hunters may need to travel outside of the unit depending on their hunting location. Some groceries and sporting goods can be found throughout the unit but most speciality needs will need to be met prior to leaving for the hunt.
