This unit is found in central Utah and lies on the east side of the town Mt Pleasant. Elk can be found in decent numbers here and hunters have great access to public lands. Vegetation is much thicker here than in most surrounding units which can make locating elk slightly more difficult.
With good public access hunters will have no issues finding huntable ground. Elk can be found in decent numbers here and hard work can lead to a punched tag.
The entire west side of the unit is almost entirely valley bottom, developed areas, and is primarily flat. To the east the mountains rise sharply off the valley floor and heavily timbered slopes climb for as much as 4,000 feet. The terrain can be very steep in spots and physical conditioning will be very important.
The lower elevations along the western side of the unit will primarily consist of your typical high desert vegetation -sagebrush, cactus, grasses, and scattered pinyon juniper. In the middle elevations pinyon juniper and sagebrush continue in a much higher density, along with pine and oak brush. The pinyon juniper will eventually disappear and the ridges will be covered in large stands of pine, spruce, fir, and aspen groves. Additionally, high alpine bowls with sagebrush, grasses, and oak brush are commonly encountered at the highest elevations.
Along with great public access, this area also features a great road and trail network. Even with the good vehicle access hunters will still need to traverse some difficult terrain to find elk. In some areas this can leave hunters with several options for packing animals back to a vehicle. Most of the lower valley bottom areas are private and nearly everything from the valley floor and up is public. Land ownership maps can be very helpful when hunting the fringes of private land. The Skyline Dr road makes up almost the entire eastern border of the unit and provides access into nearly every drainage in the unit.
Modern lodging options can be found in every town in the unit with the most options being found in Mt Pleasant. Groceries are also available in each of these towns. Sporting goods can be found in moderation, but hunters will want to fill most of these needs prior to the hunt.
