Located southeast of Cedar City and northwest of Kanab, this amazing unit offers many different elevations and terrains to hunt with abundant transition areas for deer. Geographically, this is a large unit with a good portion of private land. Some good deer are harvested in this unit every year with most of those being harvested on private property. US 89 makes the boundary for the east side, Arizona border making the south, I-15 for the west, and SR 14 making the north border. With it being a decent sized unit it offers the ability to hunt the low desert country ranging to the higher elevations with aspens and pines.

This unit is producing some great deer. It borders the famed Paunsaugunt unit; that being said, some deer can cross over during the hunts and even during the rut to intertwine the genes for the units. The majority of the trophy class deer are being harvested on private property located on the west and east parts of the unit. Hunters that are willing to learn boundary lines have had success hunting around private property. There is also plenty of public land to hunt with good success. Good access with some private issues. Archery hunters can also purchase a big bull elk tag. There aren’t abundant numbers of elk, but some are present on the north end of the unit, becoming more abundant in the private property along the park boundary, and private sections around Kolob Reservoir.

Located northeast of St. George, Utah and west of US 89. This is a very large area with Zion National Park located in the heart of the unit. The north end has high elevations with some dense thick forest and there is good access with plenty of public land to hunt. Much of the south end is winter range for the mule deer. Some deer are resident and will spend all year on the south end. Some good transition areas can be found northwest of Kanab, Utah and around Kolob Reservoir.

There is great access to this unit. For access to the north end of the unit, there are multiple maintained roads that stem from SR 14, most of which are maintained during the hunting season, including Webster Flat road, Swains Creek road, and the Strawberry Ridge road. Hunters can get access to the east end of the unit by using the Hancock and the Sand Dunes roads. Both the North Fork and the Kolob Reservoir roads give hunters access to the southern end of the unit. There is a great road system in this unit and hunters will want to familiarize themselves with these roads prior to the season. This unit also has lots of private area that have prime deer habitat.

The north end of the unit has some grass flats mixed in with pine forest and large aspen stands. Water sources are good with lots of springs, small lakes and perennial streams. Bark beetles have caused havoc on this part of the unit with a lot of blown down dead trees. Some of the forest areas can be thick with dead pine trees mixed in with new growth. The southern end of the unit has sagebrush and grass flats mixed in with pinyon/juniper, oak brush and other low elevation browse. Much of the southwest end of the unit has sandstone canyons.

Duck Creek, Cedar City, Kanab, and Springdale have lodging, gas, groceries and other supplies. Camping is permitted on most public land.
