Named after the La Sal Mountains, the large and only real mountain range in the unit, this unit has healthy herds of mule deer and great scenery. With good public access and moderate terrain, this area gives hunters a fun enjoyable hunt for mature bucks.

A general deer unit, managed for hunter opportunity, this unit still holds good bucks. Good public access in this unit.

One of the larger units in the state, it has a huge variation in terrain and habitat. There is a large stretch of desert and red slick rock canyon country leading up to the La Sal Mountain range. The La Sal Mountains are big mountains with peaks reaching up past 12,000 feet above sea level. Off of the mountain tops are large steep timber covered canyons leading down to the desert floor.

Much of the unit is part of the Manti-La Sal National Forest or desert land managed by the BLM, giving good public access. There is road access on all sides of the unit with well-maintained dirt roads leading to less-maintained 4-wheel drive roads or ATV trails. There are some large sections of private land that are closed to hunting, some are part of the CWMU program. Arches National Park is part of the unit and is closed to hunting.

The low elevations on this unit area dry, desert rolling hills and flats. Some grass, prickly-pear cactus and sage brush with scattered pinyon pines and juniper trees. Middle elevations are covered in ponderosa pines, oak brush and the sage brush continues through this elevation as well. The higher elevations have scattered aspen groves with the steep slopes covered in conifer forests.

Most hunters camp along roads, there are several locations that have good, flat camping locations for travel trailers or tents. There are a couple of designated campgrounds open to the public. Moab and Green River are the nearest towns and offer lodging and services.
